Day Three

We woke to the wonderfully warm Greek sunshine.  The bay we were moored in was as still a mill pond.  At 9.30 we went the daily morning briefing which informed us that our journey would be a longer trip south today following the west coast of mainland Greece, destination Parga.  This would be a 2 night stop over as there would be more activities, such as water sports, castle ruins, shops, restaurants and two resorts to explore.
Everyone in the Flotilla seemed very keen to get going so boats began to leave the cozy harbor shortly after 10.15.  We left later after some drone filming and snorkeling.  11.30 set sail for Parga, initially motored to get through the narrow islands and then due to lack of wind.  The lead boat overtook us but just a few minutes later they radioed to report a turtle sighting so we made our way to them.  The turtle was staying on the surface so I took the opportunity to dive in with the lead crew and swim with it for a bit while Diane followed on the boat.  If you are tracking us on the GPS you can see the loops we did as we chased it.
The wind picked up soon after so we were able to get the main sail and genoa raised and we were making good pace.  Our learning curve for today was that the wind can pick up very quickly and we had to rush to furl in the Genoa when it picked up which was a bit more messy than it could have been as we hadn't furled it before and it wasn't the ideal time to learn.  We went back to engine power for the last 20 minutes.
In Parga we were instructed to do a beach landing which is running the boat aground on the beach bow first.  Drop the kedge anchor a few boat lengths out, beach the boat and then run the bow anchor to the beach.
The rest of the evening included getting the outboard on the tender for the first time and zipping around the harbor, getting the paddle board out and messing about on it, some drone flying and a really nice meal on a sea front terraced restaurant.
