Day Seven

The briefing this morning over breakfast by a very peaceful sea informed us that we would be heading to Preveza today and it was going to be our longest journey yet, around 28 Nautical Miles.  I was hoping that it was far enough away from the airport as to not disturb us but as we were to find out that was the least of our worries.

When we set off the winds were very light so we decided to go on power due to the distance we had to cover.  Whilst we were sailing I took some shots of the inside of the boat.

Here is captain Amy

The boat has three bedrooms.  Two at the back under the cockpit, you can see the cockpit area coming right down over half of the bed.

and one at the front of the boat

Kitchen area, the oven pivots so it moves with the boat.  There is a fridge but due to power it can only be run whilst the engine is on.

Navigation / stroke gadget desk.  This has all the maps and tools we need to plot a course although we have mainly been using an app on the phone to navigate by and using the maps for backup.  The panel on the wall controls all the electrical devices as power is limited everything can be turned off when not in use.  There is also a radio and a Garmin chart plotter.

Main seating area

Sit down shower.  There is a water pump to push the water through, the water is heated by the ships engines and stays hot for a long time.  As the bottom of the shower is below the water line there is a switch to pump the water out.

The toilet or the head.  The handle on the right pumps sea water in and then with a flick of a switch pumps it into the waste tank. The tank is emptied when you are out at sea.

Couple more shots of the boat as we were motoring along.  As we got nearer our destination the wind picked up allowing us to get some sailing in although we did keep the motor on as well this time due to time.

We arrived at Preveza at around 4.30 to what seemed a nice quiet quay side and went about finding some provisions.  One of the shops that I got some ice from told us that there was to be a street party tonight.  Come 8 oclock the transformation was amazing, it was like the whole town had turned up all dressed up to the nines, street vendors were out selling food and other bits and bobs.  All this was literally on our doorstep.  We had a firework boat park itself off of our bow to kick things off with a firework show.  There were different styles of music coming from all directions, dancers in the street and even weirdly a kick boxing fight.  We gave up at at out 1 am but I think the town partied till about 4am.  It was incredibly noisy and sleep was hard to come by.
